Winter Wellness Recipe - Hot Gin Toddy
I’ve always been a sucker for a hot toddy. My friends were pretty pleased when I showed up to our girls PJ, movie night with a thermos of this in my basket.
This hot toddy recipe came about when I was a bit under the weather but wanted to embrace the party vibe in a way that was nurturing for my health. It’s a twist on a classic winter cocktail that will keep everyone at the party cozy, satisfied, and feeling good. Get creative and try different flavours like Puka’s blackcurrant beauty and for a non alcoholic verion this botanical alcoholic spirit worked a treat!
The Ingredients (Per Batch):
Bloody Shiraz Gin (I use 4 Pillars): This gin adds depth with its fresh pine needles, citrus and spice, peppery and dense raspberry notes.
Honey: Nature's sweetener, honey is packed with antioxidants and soothes the throat—perfect for keeping the winter chill at bay.
Mixed Spice: A warming blend of spices that brings festive cheer and adds anti-inflammatory benefits, ideal for a shared winter drink.
Fruit Tea: Choose a floral or berry blend to complement the gin and add a layer of flavour.
Lemon Wedges: A generous squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds a zesty twist and a dose of vitamin C.
Method:
Brew the fruit tea in a large pot or jug, then set it aside. I pre-brewed and took to the party in a thermos.
In a separate large container or punch bowl, mix the honey and mixed spice together until well combined.
Pour the brewed tea into the honey-spice mixture, stirring until fully dissolved.
Add the Bloody Shiraz Gin (or alternative) and stir gently to combine.
Squeeze in some lemon juice (or other citrus) and add slice for good looks!
Now, you’ve got a large batch of Hot Gin Toddy ready to serve!
This drink is perfect for sharing…or not!
